There are several University Health (Truman) facilities located in the greater KC Metro in addition to our partnerships with urgent care facilities.
Once you schedule your initial appointment, you'll have a whole network of doctors to serve your medical needs. The closest facility is the Lakewood Facility in Lee's Summit. They have ER services, family practice physicians, a birthing center, on site pharmacy and much more!
Scheduling an appointment is easy using an University Health (Truman) Navigator. You'll simply call the Navigator and they will help you set up the next steps for you to establish your medical care. Contact a University Health (Truman Navigator) 816-404-CARE
It depends... If you already have a University Health (Truman) network doctor, they can sometimes get a referral without requiring additional office visits. If you have been treating with a specialist in the University Health (Truman) network, it may just be as simple as notifying your primary care doctor to connect the dots. If you have questions regarding a specialist visit needing a referral, you can contact Med-Pay Services to go over your plan requirements.
You shouldn't need a referral for follow up visits, unless a procedure of some kind is performed. When in doubt, you can contact Med-Pay Plan Services.
There is a Women's Health Center located in Lee's Summit and a full list of facilities is available on this site. You can schedule a well woman exam with a University Health (Truman) Navigator, or if you prefer your primary care physician can help set this up for you.
If you have a question about what type of doctor you should see, you should start with a primary care physician. They can perform your preventive visit and also answer questions you may have about future treatment.
If you need to see a type of specialist that they don't have in the University Health (Truman) network, a UH (Truman) Primary Physician can issue a referral for you.

Technically, yes. Facilities or doctors typically require procedures to be pre authorized for medical necessity. The great thing about having an exclusive network is that this is usually factored in to the recommendations. In our plan documents, we'll provide all the information on procedures or treatments that require authorization.
